During August and September, Liberty performed work on the Martis Peak Road Buffer and Fuel Management Project. In collaboration with the Truckee Fire Department (TFD), Liberty crews completed fuel reduction work along 8 miles of primary distribution electrical facilities adjacent to Martis Peak Rd.

When possible and appropriate, Liberty works with local landowners and agencies, such as TFD, to provide cost saving benefits and an expanded scope that neither entity may be able or willing to do individually. “Both TFD and Liberty are benefiting from this collaboration, and each organization will have their own objectives met upon completion of the project. This project is a great example of Liberty’s wildfire mitigation efforts and demonstrates how we collaborate with other agencies across the service territory,” said Tim Lipovsky, System Forester for Liberty.

Throughout the project, crews removed and pruned trees and brush to meet line clearance requirements, tree spacing specifications, and ladder fuel reduction. This project created a fuel break, reduced the need for future vegetation management work, and maintains compliance of state required electrical infrastructure clearance.

This project demonstrates how Liberty is working to improve electrical service safety while partnering with other agencies to benefit the local communities.
