LIBERTY UTILITIES FILES TO LOWER RATES BY 4 PERCENT, PASS FEDERAL CORPORATE INCOME TAX SAVINGS THROUGH TO APPLE VALLEY CUSTOMERS

APPLE VALLEY, CA (July 12, 2018) – On June 25, 2018, Liberty Utilities Apple Valley filed an Advice Letter with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to lower water rates by 4 percent to ensure federal corporate income tax savings are passed through to customers. The new rates will be implemented on July 16, 2018.

“We are excited to announce that rates are going down,” said Tony Penna, Vice President and General Manager of Liberty Utilities Apple Valley. “As a regulated utility, our rates are set to recover the costs of operating, maintaining and improving the local water system. When our costs go down, as is the case with the new lower federal income tax requirement, we are pleased to pass those cost savings through to customers.”

The average residential customer served by Liberty Utilities Apple Valley who uses approximately 23.31 CCF (17,436 gallons) of water during a two-month billing period will see their bi-monthly bill decrease by $5.62.

When the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 took effect on January 1, 2018, the federal corporate income tax rate was reduced from 35 percent to 21 percent. Liberty Utilities has been tracking the overall cost savings from adjustments to the tax law, and any revenue surplus collected through July 15, 2018, will be credited back to customers through a future filing with the CPUC.
