HOTEL INSTALLING WATER-EFFICIENT TOILETS COURTESY OF LIBERTY UTILITIES
ARTESIA, CA (November 27, 2018) - A few months ago, Sarah Rae, Water Conservation Coordinator for Liberty Utilities partnered with Southwest Environmental on an exciting project at the Excelsior Hotel in Artesia, CA. Liberty Utilities will replace the hotel’s current toilets with ultra-high-efficiency toilets for FREE.
Who wins?
Everyone.
Here’s the story……
Educating property owners on water conservation is important, but Sarah wants to take education to the next level and ensure Liberty Utilities customers save as much water as possible. “One of the biggest water wasters in every office building, school, hotel, hospital, restaurant, and other commercial facility is toilets”, says Liberty Utilities’ Water Conservation Coordinator. Older and inefficient toilets are the main reasons buildings see excessively high water bills. These water-wasters sometimes use up to 5 gallons of water with every flush. “I want to provide resources to our customers to help them save water to keep their bills low and to benefit the environment”. Studies show switching to high-efficiency toilets, aren’t just good for the planet; it can also yield a significant return on investment (ROI).
Sarah Rae and Southwest Environmental approached Lisa Lee at the Excelsior Hotel. They explained that by replacing 167 toilets in the hotel, they would benefit from water savings without having to make any changes to the- behavior or habits of their guests. That equates to an average of 10 gallons saved per toilet. With that kind of water savings, Excelsior Hotel could save up to 600,000 gallons per year by the end of the project.
I’d say that is a win-win. The hotel saves on resources and increases their ROI. The planet wins by saving up to 600,000 gallons of water per year, a precious resource, especially in California.
“It inspires me to educate customers on everything that goes into getting water to their tap, and to help them value it a little more. The feeling that my job will impact the greater good is very rewarding as the less we take, the more is available in our rivers and groundwater, and for our future generations.”
