While undergrounded electrical infrastructure can present some unique challenges when repairs are needed, that won’t stop the Liberty team from stepping up to deliver electric service to our customers.

Liberty crews recently discovered a fault in an underground cable that serves the Tahoe Keys. The cable plays a key role in the grid, as it would allow Liberty to temporarily reroute power to the area if they were to experience an outage.

After identifying the potential problem in June, Liberty crews set to work installing approximately 1,085 feet of new underground primary cable and adding three new transformers. The team coordinated closely with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), the City of South Lake Tahoe, and local residents so that the work could be completed quickly, with minimal disruption, in compliance with local ordinances. The repairs to the underground infrastructure will help prevent potential future problems as well as maintain the delivery of safe and reliable electric service to the Tahoe Keys community.
