Liberty is nearing completion on a multi-year, multi-phase project to upgrade the electrical infrastructure in the Fallen Leaf area. This project aims to improve service reliability as well as reduce the risk of wildfire ignition in an area that has dense forest, challenging terrain, and increased wildfire risk.

To date, Liberty has replaced over 6 miles of aging overhead wire with modern, insulated covered conductor (wire). The covered conductor will reduce the potential for electrical faults caused by contact with vegetation, wildlife, or debris, thereby decreasing the risk of wildfire ignition. Additionally, the project includes the replacement of aging utility poles and the installation of new poles to support the heavier covered conductor. These upgrades aim to increase system durability and resilience in the long-term.

Phase D, the final of the four phases in this project, is expected to be complete by the end of October.

This project is part of Liberty’s ongoing commitment to providing safe, reliable electric service to our customers and communities.
