Eliminating Coal from our Power Mix

Since 2016, our Purchase Power Agreement (PPA) with NV Energy eliminated coal-fired energy sources while increasing renewable energy sources.  These clean energy sources help us meet the ever-increasing Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) imposed by the State of California on investor-owned utilities like Liberty Utilities.

Note:  In 2017, the State of California’s Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) was 27%.  Liberty Utilities recieved 25% of its energy from its Luning solar facility and purchased the remaining power from other sources in 2017, including 10% from geothermal resources which included renewable energy credits (RECs) needed to comply with CA’s standard.  However, Liberty Utilities estimates its total renewable power mix was 45.1% since the power it purchased from NV Energy also had a renewable component.

Renewables: Geothermal, Solar, Wind, Biofuel and/or Biomass.
