Estimated Billing

Why would my bill be estimated?

Liberty Utilities may estimate customer’s bills when the meter cannot be read on the scheduled reading date. This can be caused by any unusual conditions such as; weather, blocked roads, inability to park on roads, unsafe or hazardous conditions or any reason beyond the meter reading entity’s control.

How is my bill estimated?

Estimated consumption (kilowatt hours) will be calculated based on the customer’s prior usage, the utility’s experience with other customers of the same rate class in that area, and the general characteristics of the customer’s operations (Tariff Rule #9).

Why is my bill so high?

If Liberty Utilities was unable to access your meter or the crews were held back from reading meters due to inclement weather, your previous month or multiple months meter reads may have been estimated.  Please be aware that future statements may seem high as Liberty Utilities is now able to secure actual reads.  If the actual read obtained is higher than the estimated read of the previous month, Liberty Utilities will ensure the customer has received the full *baseline allowance on all estimated bills.

Once an actual read is obtained, Liberty Utilities will provide an adjusted statement if the estimated read was higher than the actual meter reading.

*Baseline Allowance – Minimal amount of KWH (kilowatt hours) per day allowed for permanent residential customers charged at a lower cost.

How do I know if my bill is estimated?

An estimated bill will show an “ESTIMATED READ” along the meter bar line on the first page of your bill, above the account activity and consumption comparison boxes.

A bill with an actual read will show as a “CURRENT READ” along the meter bar line on the first page of your bill, above the account activity and consumption comparison boxes.

Do I have to pay the "estimated" bill?

A customer must pay the bill whether it was based on an actual or estimated reading. However, if the estimated reading appears to be out of line with what you normally use during the same time of year please pay what you expect your average monthly bill to be.

YOU MUST CONTACT OUR OFFICE TO ADVISE THAT YOU ARE NOT PAYING AN ESTIMATED READ IN FULL IN ORDER TO AVOID COLLECTION ACTIVITY AND POTENTIAL DISCONNECT.

Note: You are required to pay the full amount of all bills reflecting an actual read.  If you are unable to pay this amount in full please contact our office and speak to our customer service representative.
