A stronger grid doesn’t happen by chance, or all at once. In Alpine County, Liberty has been making targeted upgrades in this high wildfire-risk area to strengthen electric service, improve system resiliency, and reduce wildfire risk for the customers and communities we serve.
This power line rebuild project will support Liberty’s broader wildfire mitigation program by replacing 7.4 miles of aging infrastructure with stronger, more resilient equipment designed for local conditions. This summer, Liberty will be rebuilding the last section of overhead power lines near State Route 88 in Alpine County. This phase includes replacing approximately 3.8 miles of existing bare wire with covered conductor, replacing poles, installing additional poles where needed to support the heavier covered conductor, and upgrading select overhead equipment.
Covered conductor is an important protective upgrade, especially in areas where trees, branches, wind, and weather can affect electric infrastructure and increase wildfire risk. By rebuilding this portion of the line, Liberty is taking proactive steps to make the system better able to withstand local conditions in this Alpine County corridor.
Crews have already started work, and the project is expected to be complete by the end of 2026. These upgrades are part of Liberty’s ongoing commitment to improving the safety, reliability, and resiliency of electric service for our customers and communities.
