On January 1, 2017, The Empire District Electric Company, an electric distribution utility serving parts of Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma, became a wholly owned subsidiary of Liberty Utilities (Central) Co., which is an indirect subsidiary of Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp.  Liberty Utilities (CalPeco Electric) LLC is also an indirect subsidiary of Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp.

 

On December 21, 2016, Luning Energy LLC was acquired by Liberty Utilities (Luning Holdings) LLC; Liberty Utilities (Luning Holdings) LLC’s managing member is Liberty Utilities (CalPeco Electric) LLC.  Luning Energy LLC owns and will operate a 50 MW (nameplate) solar generation facility located in Mineral County, Nevada and interconnected with the transmission system owned by Sierra Pacific Power Company d/b/a NV Energy.  Luning Energy LLC and Liberty Utilities (CalPeco Electric) LLC have entered into a long-term power purchase agreement for the sale by Luning Energy LLC to Liberty CalPeco of the full output of the Luning Energy LLC facility, including   all energy, capacity, and environmental attributes, pursuant to Luning Energy LLC’s FERC market based rate tariff.

On August 13, 2016, Liberty Utilities (Luning Holdings) LLC was formed; its sole purpose is to own Luning Energy LLC.
