Storm Preparedness

Develop a Storm Preparedness Plan

Developing a storm preparedness plan will make sure your business is ready if the power goes out. Identify potential risks and hazards associated with your business, then look for ways to mitigate those hazards before the storm hits.

Storm Preparedness Tips

Include the following in your storm kit:

  • Keep a stock of blankets and firewood (if applicable).
  • Store enough bottled water, canned food and a manual can-opener for your employees/customers.
  • Keep your first aid kit well stocked and up to date.
  • Have working flashlights, a battery-operated radio, and extra batteries.
  • Keep any item that will help to mitigate business-specific hazards on hand.
  • Keep a corded (traditional analog) telephone or cell phone available. Cordless phones don't work if the power goes out.
  • If you have a generator, please review our Generators section and make sure you can operate yours safely.
